After a quick check online, I see that a financial advisor is described as “a professional who provides expertise for clients' decisions around money matters, personal finances, and investments.”

Bob Smith has been ever so much more than that for me! When I met him, almost twenty-five years ago, I was a senior newly-wed. My husband was retired and I was nearing retirement. We had both made fairly good financial choices (Read More...) up to this point and wanted to make sure of some growth and stability in the future. We both liked Bob immediately and were impressed at the in-depth look he took at our wants, needs, financial state, and lifestyle. We felt comfortable and confident in letting him line things up for us.

Eventually, my dear husband began to show signs of dementia... just as we had started to build a new home in a 55-plus neighborhood. He became very anxious about our ability to finance our move and Bob repeatedly stepped in with reassurances.

During that period, we worked with a lawyer on our wills and trusts. This didn’t go so easily, and once again, Bob was supportive in many ways.

At the same time, I was a long-distance career for my dad in Florida. He needed assisted living, at best, or a nursing home; and I had decided to fly him north to Pennsylvania so that I could oversee his care while caring for my husband. Bob was once again helping in very concrete ways… much beyond the usual financial advisor role.

Soon I was executor for the estates of both my dad and husband, it was a very stressful time for me. Bob took me to meet an excellent lawyer and even met me in West Chester to get the needed paperwork. Without Bob, I would have been lost!

I am now living in beautiful Clearwater, Florida, and Bob has continued as my advisor and investor. I take comfort in knowing that he keeps all pertinent information on file (which will also be available to the trusted successor to his business). My son will be very thankful for this resource when I pass on!

Perhaps most clients would not need as much hand-holding as I do, but anyone would be blessed to have this man as an advisor… and friend!
